Gratefulness vs Entitlement
Family, family, family! We are back with yet ANOTHER inspirational message. This week, it is my pleasure to introduce to you; Manna! Manna is a South Georgia native, mother wife, scientist, and writer! She is a woman with many talents and I am so pleased that she is blessing us this week with a powerful and on-time message. This message can be carried on past the week. It is a sound message for EVERYONE to apply every single day.
Be blessed family! Don’t forget to sound off in the comments below!
Have you ever done a favor for someone, and they made you feel like it wasn’t enough? Maybe someone has asked you for some money and when you could not give it to them, they became mad, they called you a liar and insisted that you did have it to give, or they made you feel guilty? Perhaps it's you. Perhaps you don’t receive the word no very well and you expect people to move, be available, or give at your beck and call. If you know anyone who behaves this way, then you have come in contact with someone who is operating within a sense of entitlement. See Webster’s definition below:
Entitlement (noun)
en·ti·tle·ment | \ in-ˈtī-tᵊl-mənt , en- \
Definition of entitlement
1 a: the state or condition of being entitled: RIGHT
b: a right to benefits specified especially by law or contract
2: belief that one is deserving of or entitled to certain privileges
3: a government program providing benefits to members of a specified group also: funds supporting or distributed by such a program
For this blog post, we are only considering definition number 2. Many of us believe that we deserve certain things and privileges from the people around us based solely on the relationship we have with that person. Some grown adults think they're entitled to their parent's money. Maybe they believe they are entitled to favors from family members like babysitting or borrowing someone else’s car. This is the worse attitude to have. Having a sense of entitlement when you are in need will not only offend your loved ones but will make them reluctant or even unwilling to help you in the future. Instead, we should adopt an attitude of gratefulness for the people in our lives. When someone helps you from the goodness of their heart, we must express thankfulness and be grateful because they have considered your needs more important than their own at that moment. Keep in mind we must also have a daily heart of gratefulness. We should be grateful to God for every day we see because we are not entitled to a new morning.
Sometimes there will be things that we ask God for, and the answer will be no. However, trusting God means knowing that everything is working together for our good even when we can’t have something we want or something we think we need. When this happens, we should still operate in gratefulness and thank God for the many blessings we have already enjoyed. This blog has a simple but profound premise. Always have an attitude of gratitude to God and the people he places in your life. With that being said I would like to thank TJ&M Publishing for this collaboration. I love you, sis! Keep Going.
From Heaven to You,
Manna
