You Still Haven’t Done That Yet?
Hey family. Welcome back to another week of motivation! Glad you stopped by. This week, we are going to be discussing a dirty word…PROCRASTINATION. When it comes to that word…I was the Queen. Trust me, I did not wear the crown proudly. It is a nasty little beast that I still have to fight on a daily basis to conquer. It keeps you stressed, burnt out, and in a foul mood. I was all of those things when deadlines were approaching. Does this sound like you? Then let’s talk about it.
I think I knew pretty early that I was a procrastinator. I probably didn't know the word for it back in the day but rest assured that I know it now. (lol) My procrastination really became a problem when I went back to college to pursue my degree in healthcare. Here I am, married and with three children, working full time, and trying to go back to school. I mean, it was a lot. So, time management really had to be my friend. Problem was, it wasn't. My assignments were due on Mondays at midnight. What day do you think I waited to get it done? Did you guess Monday? You’d be correct! What time did I submit it for the bonus?! Midnight! Yes! I would be stressed out until I hit the submit button. It’s amazing how I ended up graduating with my bachelors in only 2 ½ years with a 3.69 GPA!
Then my procrastination spilled over into my professional life. I was an exceptional employee. I always met deadlines; I always got the job done. However, what people didn’t know was, that I had a habit of waiting until the last minute to complete it. Now, it wasn’t a problem for them because I always delivered. However, it was a huge problem for me, because it had me stressed out, and I was causing unnecessary stress to enter my life because I refused to have a plan.
So that is my message to you this week. I want you to have a plan. Let time management be your friend. Don’t be like me and stress yourself out unnecessarily. Stress kills and it has no age. Even if you have to get a calendar and write out your goals and tasks for the week. I am a firm believer in owning a desk and a pocket planner. I write everything down. Writing it down is not enough though. You MUST execute. To a hardcore procrastinator, this may be a problem, but you are going to have to work through it day by day. Hour by hour if you have to. If you need some inspiration, jump down in the comments and yell help! The TJM family will be more than happy to help guide you to greatness and a stress-free life.
So this week, I want all my procrastinators and last-minute people to focus on making a plan and executing it to the best of their ability.
