Emotional Worshipper

One early morning, while driving home, I was listening to my worship music. I mean, I was all in the zone talking to God and singing this song. Some of you will know what song I am referring to in a minute. Anyway, as I am singing, the song gets to the part when it says; “I vow to praise you, through the good and the bad.” Immediately I was checked. I heard so clearly, “Would you?” My mind started to immediately go back to the time most recently when I was dealing with some things. I think I started off talking to God about it, but then I stopped. I wasn’t angry with God, or blaming him for what was going on, I just stopped communicating with him because I allowed my situation to take first place in my life. Sure enough, when things picked back up, it was all about him again. Even though I was reading my bible and saying a prayer here and there during my trial, I think I did it more out of routine and obligation than from my heart. I knew that I needed God (and still need him). I honestly never thought about not having him. I just stopped communicating because my mind became so consumed with what was happening now. Do you do that? Be honest. Do you “forget” about God when trials come? I don’t mean forget as if you don’t know him anymore or start living how you want to live. I mean forget as in you aren’t as quick to pray, read, or talk to him because your problem is bigger than him in your mind.  I know that there is nothing too big for God, but my actions said something different. I chose to worry about my problem as opposed to worshipping the one who can guide me through it.

Are you an emotional worshipper? Is your praise to God dependent on the mood you’re in? When you are broken and can’t see your way out of a certain situation, do you praise him? When money is low or sickness has hit your body do you seek his face, or do you seek other forms of relief and hope? It is easy to sing his praises when all is well in your life. It’s easy to be motivated when things are going your way. We owe God more than what we give him, and his requirements for us aren’t even that grand! Praising him and worshipping him has got to be as natural as us blinking our eyes. It shouldn’t be something we have to be in the mood to do. What if God was that moody when it came to us? We would be in a world of trouble. I know I would be. I thank God that he is not like me at all! He is steadfast, true, and consistent with his love. Family, we must do better. There is honestly no other way to put it.
